The 2024 UCI Road and Para-Cycling Road World Championships will be held in Zürich, Switzerland from Saturday 21st September to Sunday 29th September.
A total of 66 rainbow jerseys will be awarded in individual time-trials and road races with Zürich combining the Road and Para-Cycling Road World Championships together for the first time.
Last year, Lotte Kopecky (Belgium) staged a late breakaway in the dying kilometres for victory ahead of Demi Vollering (Netherlands) and Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig (Denmark), just a few days after winning two gold medals on the track. In the men’s race, neither a sudden crash nor bloodied knee could stop Mathieu van der Poel (Netherlands) from pulling on the rainbow bands. He had jumped clear from a strong break containing Wout van Aert (Belgium), Tadej Pogačar (Slovenia) and Mads Pedersen (Denmark).
Remco Evenepoel (Belgium) and Chloé Dygert (United States) rode their way to glory in the elite time-trials.

Junior Men Individual Time-Trial

The 24.9km route for the junior men takes place on the last section of the elite courses. Beginning just south of the finish line, the flat route takes riders south towards Meilen where, just prior to the (town), they will loop back on themselves to finish in Sechseläutenplatz.
Junior Women Individual Time-Trial

18.8km in length, the junior women’s course loops back on itself just prior to Herrliberg, making it slightly shorter in length than the junior men’s course. It’s also the same route used for the Women C1-3 and H3-5 time-trials plus the Men’s C1-3 and H1-5 ones too.
Mixed Relay Team Time-Trial

The mixed relay team time-trial sees three men complete one lap of a 26.85km city circuit followed by three women then riding the same route for a combined total of 53.7km. Home nation Switzerland is the defending champions in this event with Stefan Bissegger, Elise Chabbey, Nicole Koller, Stefan Küng, Marlen Reusser and Mauro Schmid beating France last year by 7 seconds.
Road Races
Women Junior Road Race

The junior women complete two loops, one of a Greifensee circuit around the lake followed by one of the city circuit for 73.6km of racing.
Men Junior Road Race

The junior men follow the same circuit as the women from Uster with an additional two more loops of the city circuit (three in total) to notch up 127.2km in the saddle.
Men U23 Road Race

On the same course, the U23 men will cover two loops around Greifensee followed by four of the city circuit to total 2,483m of elevation over 173.6km.
Women Elite Road Race

The women’s elite road race leaves Uster and heads towards the Greifensee circuit. Riders then encounter four laps of the city circuit to see who will become the new World Champion.
Men Elite Road Race

The men also follow the same course but with seven laps of the city circuit for 4,470m of elevation over 273.9km to potentially dethrone Van der Poel.
UCI Road World Championships 2024: How to watch
As host broadcaster, SRG in Switzerland will produce live pictures from Zurich with Eurosport broadcasting coverage throughout Europe. The BBC owns the rights in the UK and will show races across BBC Sport and on iPlayer. FloBikes is the place to go if you’re in the United States and Canada. Australia will show the action on SBS Sport and SBS On Demand.
Discovery+ is also broadcasting the World Championships for £6.99 per month with the basic package, which includes cycling and all other Eurosport programmes.
If it’s not being shown in your country, you may be able to watch coverage using a VPN – Virtual Private Network – which allows users to mask their IP address and watch geo-blocked content, provided they don’t need to pay for a subscription. This is also helpful for watching paid-for coverage while abroad in countries without access.
One such example is ExpressVPN, which is very well reviewed, helps users to find a way to watch cycling without having to pay for broadcasters services, and costs £5.36 per month, with three months free. Other options include NordVPN, Surfshark and Kapersky.
