Production editor Martin James has been a fan of both cycling and well-crafted cunning linguistics for longer than some of the Cyclist team have been alive.

Having ridden just about every road going in South Africa growing up, watching that Tour de France finale on the Champs-Élyseés on TV in 1989 cemented a love for pro cycling that has endured to this day – as his personal archive of Tour footage from down the years testifies.
